It's not a bomb, it's just my hip replacement…

{June 3, 2010}   FAQs

1. Does your hip still hurt?

Why yes, yes it does. They sawed through my bone and scooped out my joint, then replaced it with a fake. Then they apparently moved my leg around in horrid positions to see if it would easily dislocate. So yes, it hurts.

2. How does it feel when you put weight on that leg?

It feels like I’m going to fall down. Doesn’t really hurt, just feels very unstable.

3. Does it suck using crutches?

HELL YES it sucks! I am attached to these things. I can’t take a single unaided step so if I have to pee, I have to crutch the 2 feet to the sink to wash my hands. I once got up in the middle of the night and forgot to pick them up and almost landed on my bum. Also, my pits are chafing. G-r-o-s-s.

4. Have you fallen?

On the stairs, yes, and more than once. Yes, it hurts.

5. How long until you can swim?

About 6 weeks.

6. Do you feel better every day?

No. I have good days and bad days. I have not yet reached a point where I consistently feel better.

7. Do your meds help you sleep?

No. I haven’t slept for more than 3 hours at a time since this surgery. Yes, I’m going insane.

Okay that’s all I can think of. But those are the most common questions I get.
